On 29 December 2008, Mr. Alberto Catmaitan Romulo, Foreign Minister of the Philippines, who was on his unofficial visit to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya to congratulate him on his assumption of office. On 26 December 2008, Mr. Eric G. John, US Ambassador, Mr. Zhang Jiuhuan, Chinese Ambassador and, Mr. Kyoji Komachi, Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, paid their courtesy calls to congratulate Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya respectively upon his assumption of office. The new Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the Royal Thai Government’s policy, to be announced before the Parliament on 29-30 December, as a promise to serve the Thai people and “commitment to the international community at large.” On 25 December 2008, Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, welcomed Lao media delegation who is visiting Thailand under an exchange programme between Lao and Thai Journalists Association during 22 – 29 December 2008. On 24 December 2008, Mr. Tharit Charungvat, Director-General of the Information Department and Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, gave a press briefing on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya’s first day at the Ministry. On 10 November 2008 at 15.00 hrs. Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, presides over the exhibition on “The Kingdom of Bahrain’s 5000 Years: A Pictorial Journey” at Siam Paragon Shopping Mall. At 19.00 hrs., Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivers remarks at the dinner “German Technology Symposium & Exhibition (GTS08)” World Ballroom, Centara Grand Hotel. On 4 November 2008, at 9.00 hrs, Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, presides over the opening ceremony of the seminar on “1 Year with JTEPA” at Grand Ballroom, 4th floor, Grand Millennium Sukhumvit Hotel. On 14 October, at 17.30 hrs., Mr. Yevgeny Vladimirovich Afanasiev, Russian Ambassador to Thailand, pays a courtesy call on Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the assumption of his assignment at Ministry of Foreign Affairs On Monday, 20 October 2008 at 10.30 hrs., Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, presides over the meeting of sub-committee on substance of the 14th ASEAN Summit at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On 14 October 2008, at 15.00 hrs., Mrs. Maria Luisa Fernandez Equilaz, Cuban Ambassador to Thailand, pays a courtesy call on Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the completion of her assignment, at Ministry of Foreign Affairs On 14 October 2008, at 09.00 hrs, Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs presides over the opening ceremony of the seminar on Thai-U.S.Think-Tank Summit at World Ballroom B, Centara Grand, Bangkok Convention Center ,Central World On 10 October 2008 at 08.30 hrs, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentine Republic pays a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister at the Foreign Ministry. On Monday 8 September 2008, the Foreign Ministry organizes “ASEAN Lecture 2008”. Mr. Samak Sundaravej, Prime Minister, delivers remarks on “ASEAN: A New Era with People Agenda” with the attendance of Dr. Sahas Banditkul, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister, and Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN Secretary-General, at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
